What vegetarian foods have high protein?

I watched videos on PETA and was deeply saddened by the videos on cruelty to animals in slaughter houses etc. I want to be a vegetarian now. What are some protein rich foods that are vegetarian ?I want to still work out and build a good body.Is it possible with a vegetarian diet?

Are you eating dairy? Or eggs? Milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs are all high in protein.
Or you may not know it but if you combine grains (that’s wheat, rice, couscous, bulgur wheat, bread, pasta) with all kinds of beans or nuts, you get a complete protein – examples are bread and peanut butter, rice and beans.

Beans, nuts, seeds, grains, and meat alternatives are all good protein sources. It is certainly possible to build a strong body on a vegetarian/vegan diet. There are many vegetarian/vegan athletes. Canada’s ironman triathlete is a vegan, he won 2 years in a row. I suggest ordering the vegetarian starter kit from PETA and checking some books out of your library on vegetarianism. Start with "Becoming Vegetarian". Good info in their for teens.

For someone who talks about working out and having a good body, I am honestly shocked and kind of disgusted that you’re even asking this. It makes me wonder just what on earth you think is healthy food, and anything you know about nutrition. Basically, how are you trying to build a good body when you don’t know anything about your macronutrients?

Any basic bodybuilder relies on three things for protein: dairy, eggs, and meat…and in that order (some prefer eggs over dairy, but meat is last). The reason? They’re much better absorbed than meat!

But if you care about the animals, I suggest looking at why dairy and eggs are bad (bad for you, and bad for the animals). That’ll push you over to vegan, and they don’t eat meat, dairy, eggs, or even honey. So now what? Never fear! You see, except for oil, ALL FOOD ON THIS PLANET CONTAINS PROTEIN. Yes, there ARE vegan bodybuilders and they DO compete. Just check out the profiles on http://www.veganbodybuilding.com. There’s even a guy who does powerlifting and strongman competitions on a vegan diet.

Everything has protein! If you are a female, you don’t have to work as much. Meat-eating women are more likely to get too much protein than veg ones are to get too little. Men do have to pay more attention, but it is VERY possible. (The vegan body building links in the other answer are all very good ones!). There are vegan protein powders and bars, too.

Nuts, non-dairy milks, tofu, tempeh, peanut butter, seitan, lentils, beans, etc. are all great obvious protein sources. But don’t forget about pasta, broccoli, lima beans, peas, bagels and breads …

First remember this… media always shows you propoganda to shape your beliefs. Example: remember when Brittany spears was driving around with her baby on her lap and every one went crazy calling her a bad mother.. Well that didn’t mean that all hot young chicks are bad mothers… just Brittany. Same with these PETA videos… I have worked on several calf and dairy ranches and we took care of our animals as good as our children. But you will never see a video like that because people want the drama… OK enough with the soap box, you can always add whey protein to your diet.
