Jalebi (Sweet) Recipe by Manjula, Indian Vegetarian Cuisine

INGREDIENTS:
Recipe for 4 servings:
Jalebi Batter:
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon basen (gram flour)
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon oil
1/2 teaspoon yeast
1/3 cup and 2 tablespoons of warm water
For the Syrup:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Pinch of cardamom powder
Few strands of saffron
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Canola oil to fry

    ok. so i’ve already made these jalebis before. i add some orange food coloring powder from the indian store to color the syrup. i’m gonna make them again. i don’t have a ketchup bottle, i just use a ziplock bag and snip a tiny piece off the corner of the bag to “pipe” out the batter. works great. thank you manjula for your great recipes!!!

    You can’t exactly convert cups to grams, half a cup of water is 125 g, while half a cup of, let’s say, liquid silver is about 750 g. It depends on the material your measuring.

    If you are in the US, you can find yeast in the grocery store in the baking section near the flour. Generally it comes in a jar as in the video but it also comes in packets (3 packets in a row not in a box). I have ever been in a grocery that only had the packets. Quickbreads use baking powder and baking soda with a clabbering agent (something sour) but that is not generally interchangable in yeast recipes.
