This is for my project/experiment for english class.
I’ve been a vegetarian for a week but I need some info from others as well.
Do you get anti-vegetarian comments from your peers? Did you feel differently after the change?
ETC ETC ETC
thanks in advance, guys! ![]()
I received a lot of anti-vegetarian comments after becoming a vegetarian and I still do. When someone asked why I said because a number of reasons and for animal rights. The person responded smugly "oh, you’re one of those people". I live in Arkansas so a lot of these "country folk" are vegetarian and vegan haters and they make me feel like I’m a freak or something. On the inside, I honestly feel like a better being. I hate people more and I really hate factory farming the most. Really, I’m kind of in pain because I know that there are so many animals being inhumanely slaughtered while I sit here on this computer and there is nothing I can do. Physically, I feel much better. I have more energy and I feel like I’m getting more nutrients because I’m relying more on fruits and vegetables rather than the rotting flesh of a defenseless creature.

Well by not eating meat you are not introducing yourself to as many toxins and cancer cells. I have never eaten meat so I can say that I had it easy as far as family is concerned, I know some families don’t understand. I have gotten teased a few times, but most of those people are over weight and are starting to have really bad health problems so I don’t really mind.
A note for you DON’T cut meat cold turkey! The people that do usually get sick. The reason is the fact that the meat that you ate had toxins in the fat which is now in your body and if you cut cold turkey you body will start to digest the fat at a quick rate and the toxins will be released into your system and therefore you will become ill. Go slow when you are stopping the consumption of animal protein. If you do you will have no problems with sickness hitting you hard. I learned this from my mother who stopped eating meat when she met my father.
A person who doesn’t eat meat usually has more energy than a person who does.
Here is a list of just a few of the vegetarian Olympians of the world:
1. Charlene Wong is a champion figure skater who represented Canada in the 1988 Calgary Olympics. She began competing at the age of 6 and in 1980 was named to the Canadian Team and represented Canada in the Junior World Championships. She was highlighted in The Vegetarian Sports Nutrition Guide by Lisa Dorfman.
2. Paavo Nurmi, a Finnish runner, was a vegetarian since the age of 12. He is often considered the greatest track and field athlete of all time. A long-distance runner, he competed in the 1920, 1924 and 1928 Olympics, winning 12 Olympic medals.
3. Chris Campbell, wrestler, trained for the 1980 Olympics but did not compete as the American team boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics. At age 37, he began training again and secured a place on the US team, winning a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics, becoming the oldest American to medal in Olympic wrestling. He says, "I take care of my body. I don’t eat meat, and I do yoga every day. It makes a difference."
4. Carl Lewis, vegan athlete, won 10 Olympic medals, including 9 golds, in a career that spanned from 1979 to 1996, competing for the US. He said, "most athletes have the worst diet in the world, and they compete in spite of it."
5. Surya Bonaly, professional figure skater, represented France in the Olympics of 1992, 1994, and 1998. She is also now a US citizen. A vegetarian, she has appeared in PETA ads protesting Canada’s baby seal hunt and English and French fur trade.
6. Debbie Lawrence, vegetarian racewalker, has been a three-time Olympian (1992, 1996, and 2000) and is the world record holder for the women’s 5K racewalk event. She attributes her success to hard work and a vegetarian diet.

He was an Olympic champion at age seventeen. He was known for his vegetarianism during his career, earning him the nickname, "The Seaweed Streak." He competed in the Olympics from 1956 through 1960, winning six medals.

I receive some non-vegetarian comments, but as a whole I don’t. The majority of what I get is people acting like I’m a picky eater (I’m not. Give me something that is vegetarian and organic, and I will eat it.), and people atcing like I’m malnourished (Which I’m also not.). I definitely feel different. I feel like a more ethical and moral person, but I also feel healthier. I became a vegetarian when I was ten years old, and from the moment I made up my mind, I haven’t eaten meat, fish, or gelatin. Some people say it’s hard to stop eating meat, but I found it extremely easy. (If you have a pet, imagine murdering and eating them.) I think the best way to not do or eat anything, whether it’s drugs, alchohol, meat, etc. is to make up your mind about it.
However, there is research that shows certain blood types handle being vegetarian better than others, and as an A positive, I’m one of those types. Overall, though, I think that if you want to be vegetarian or vegan, no matter your blood-type, go for it. You’ll definitely be mentally healthier.

Myself.
I have been a vegetarian pretty much my whole life so I couldn’t give you a good contrast, however, medical studies show that vegetarians have lower risk of heart disease, stroke, infertility, colon cancer, other types of cancer, obesity and have an ~7 year longer lifespan. I think that not eating animal products in general reduces the amount of saturated fat intake of a person therefore improving their health in the above mentioned ways.
