Do vegetarian actors eat meat if the scene and their character requires it?

Actors are professionals. They get into character and do their jobs. Straight actors play gay characters. Gay actors play straight characters. Good-hearted actors play psychopathic characters, etc. The point is that acting is their job and they do what is required to get into character. But I always wonder whether vegetarian actors would refuse to eat meat even if a scene or their character requires that they eat a hamburger or chicken wing?

I don’t think any actors eat meat on stage. It just wouldn’t be safe sitting under those hot stage lights. I’m not an actor, but most of what you see on stage or in the movies is just an illusion.

I know that actors have to adapt to most anything.

Im not sure about the vegetarian thing, but I have heard of actors and actresses who wont play a role if it has language or a sex scene in the movie.

they probably eat something that looks like meat but it is something else like if he has to eat a steak they might make it out of a jello or substitutes

They may act like they’re eating it. You’d have to ask a vegan actor like Clint Eastwood.

Kal Penn did not. You would have to ask the actor individually.

I’m sure they use fake meat. Vegan actors (like Joaquin Phoenix) also require that their costumes be made from pleather.

It’s also possible to slightly alter the props used due to availability.

Actors don’t REALLY have sex on screen (most of the time).
Actors don’t REALLY kill someone during a movie.
So a veg actor doesn’t have to eat REAL meat. Just something that looks like it.

I don’t think that they are required to actually eat the meat, just appear that they are going to eat it.

Let’s say that the scene involves the actors ordering and then eating something at McDonalds. They would just give them a veggie burger or something like that, not a real one. Even the person taking the orders are actors, too. They don’t just randomly order something.

No, any more than actor playing an alcoholic downs a real bottle of whisky when the scene or their character requires it, or an actor playing a doctor really injects another actor with real medicine.

    It’s all pretend

Most actors don’t really eat. Think of those who are extremely fit-who need to look to eat hamburgers and fast foods. They don’t eat it really, and som eis fake food, made from something else-whil eothers choose to spit it out after the scene.

im vegan and i would never eat meat just for a film or even for $$$

and you could easily replace the hamburger/chicken nuggets… by tofu

If they eat the meat they are not vegetarians, so the question does not really make sense.

It’s not difficult to devise a food that *looks* like meat for a vegetarian actor. For instance in the ’80′s film Splash, Darryl Hannah’s character is supposed to enthusiastically devour a lobster in one scene. It looks real, but was actually made of bread dough & stuffed with mashed potatoes.
