I’m trying out the vegetarian lifestyle and I was wondering if a vegetarian could eat fish but still be a vegetarian…
Also I would like to know some good things about being a vegetarian xD
P.S. I’m not trying out to be vegetarian for a while because I do not aproove animal slaughter. I actually think that if we eat meat it perfectly fine since animals also kill other animals, but I am more worried about health conditions and weight problems…
Umm.. no. Fish are animals. Vegetarians do not eat animals. If you want to eat fish, you will be a pescetarian. Being vegetarian is great if you’re extremely passionate about animal rights, but otherwise there aren’t many benefits. Meat is necessary as it is an easy source of iron and protein. When you are a vegetarian, you have to change your eating habits to figure out how to make up for the loss of protein/iron. If you need someone to tell you why you should or shouldn’t be a vegetarian, then I’d say it’s safe to assume you aren’t very enthusiastic about it. I’d suggest stop trying go be a vegetarian, just try to eat less red meat (which contributes to heart disease). Hope this helped.

A vegetarian who eats fish is actually called a pescetarian. I love being a vegetarian because I don’t feel bad about animals dieing for me to eat, I love vegetables, and I have learned to cook really healthy foods for myself. I save money because I do not buy meat, poultry, and fish. I have also made friends with other great vegetarians. And, I can help new vegetarians.

Vegetarians don’t eat fish, they’re still animals. The good things are that it’s relatively healthy and doesn’t have such a negative impact on animal welfare as the traditional diet.

vegeterians CANNOT eat fish….u CANNOT eat any animals if u r a vegetarian. if the only meat product u eat is fish then u r a pescaterian.
well some of the good things about being a vegetarian are that
-we generally have lower rates of obesity and being overweight
-we live longer and have fewer heart problems
- we have a smaller ecological footprint
-we reduce the suffering of animals
-also humans were meant to be vegetarians….meat-eaters have a MUCH higher chance of getting colon cancer than vegetarians because our bodies were not made to handle meat.

Vegetarians do not eat fish. By definition, a vegetarian is a person who does not eat anything that is made from dead animal. Fish are animals, so eating them is not vegetarian.
Pescetarianism is a way of eating that includes sea animals but not land animals, but it is not vegetarian. I personally feel better as a vegetarianism and it has encouraged me to try all kinds of great new cuisines.

How many damn times am I going to have to see this stupid question?!
Just about every week, someone too lazy to use the search function asks if a vegetarian can eat fish. The answer is and always will be NO. Vegetarians do not eat the flesh of animals. Fish are animals. Thank you and good night.
As for good things about being vegetarian, they tend to have lower rates of heart disease, and cancer. My taste buds have changed since I went vegan, and I’m enjoying a wider variety of foods.

There is no such thing as a vegetarian who eats fish. That’s hypocrisy.
HOWEVER, there IS such a thing as a "pescetarian" which is one who only eats one type of meat- and that is fish.

Its your choice weather or not u eat fish. Dont let anyone tell u its not allowed. Its YOUR diet, and anything is allowed.
For me the best thing abut switching was that I was introduced to a whole new world of recipies. The range of meals I cook now is much wider then when I was a meat eater. You start thinking about what ur eating and experimenting with new veggies and protein sources.

Eating fish and calling yourself a vegetarian are mutually exclusive. However, if your main motivation is not a matter of ethics, what do you care about labels?
Let me point out that animals are unable to make the choice not to kill other creatures to survive-they must eat what is available to them. Two species are obligate carnivores-cannot survive without eating meat. Homo sapiens is not, and has the capability to choose.
However, a primarily plant food diet that includes fish can be very healthy. Fish is low in saturated fat and many types have the omega oils that promote cardiovascular health. Besides the additives that livestock feed includes, the main con to eating beef, pork and poultry is the saturated fat. So if you want to stop eating those meats and only eat fish, you will reap the benefits.
As for what you tell people, just say "I don’t eat beef, pork or poultry".

If you eat fish, you are not a vegetarian. If you ate no meat except for fish you would be a pescatarian. It is scientifically proven it is healthier to be a vegetarian and vegetarians live longer. Also, I haven’t notices a big change in my weighy but everyone says that I’ve lost alot of weight.

OK, I had a diet similar to yours for a while. I ate animal products such as dairy and eggs, and fish. I think the common term is Pescetarian for Pesco-vegetarian. Because you do not care so much about the humanitarian aspect of a meatless diet, this would be great for you! But you would not be a vegetarian, you would just say "i don’t eat land meat" or something cute like that. eventually (i know eating animals is ok, but must we pump them full of drugs for their entire lives, or put them in such close conditions that their beaks must be broken?) I cut fish out of my diet as well, so now I am a vegetarian.
Good things a bout either vegetarian of pescetarian :
-in general vegetarians consume less bad cholesterol and saturated fat.
-you will be consuming considerably less antibiotics and other toxins (look up the term biological magnification) by placing yourself lower on the the food chain.
-having less meat will force you to take in more nutrients from vegetables and fruits, with will improve your body and mind overall, (yay vitamins!)
-you are helping the environment! the land that live stock takes up to produce a small amount of meat could feed many many people were it used for vegetables. it saves electricity, gas and oil as vegetables do not need to be transported as much, or slaughtered.
Go ahead! choose a healthier more eco friendly life!

vegetarians no, but I can. I’m a fishvore, pescetarian. fish aren’t swimming fruits. if you want to base your diet on plants but consume fish once a week, then that would be called a flexitarian diet. I eat fish because they’re carnivorous and don’t really care how many fish they’ll eat in their life, so I’m just another fish that will eat them. I really dislike to eat very peaceful herbivorous animals. in a documentary Brilliant Beasts they showed how piggies are mentally affected when they are taken from their mothers as babies. fish are quite different, smart but different. a salmon will die to feed its young, so it’s you or them. it’s really not that cruel to eat them. neither is wrong to eat marshmallows and wear leather. skins and bones are a byproduct of meat industry.
the good things about it are that you can save grains that could already feed you instead of wasting them on raising animals. for beef it takes something like 8 or 9 pounds of corn to get 1 pound of beef. you’ll also eat healthier. the people that get anemic, don’t eat enough nuts, grains and beans. nuts alone have enough metals to keep you healthy, they even have calcium and some have almost a complete protein. fish are like 140 while cashews have an amino acid score of 100. btw milk won’t make your bones stronger. too much protein will make blood acidic and body will leech calcium to neutralize it. and you also feel healthier but that’s because you eat healthier, less junk food. I eat steamed fish and I feel "light" cause there’s not much fat in them.
the bad side is that animals are still going to be killed during harvesting.
if you want to eat fish, eat the ones that are lower on the food chain because they have lower concentrations of mercury. personally I aim for fish with less than 0.1 ppm. pink salmon and atlantic mackerel have around 0.06 ppm. longtail tuna and other tunas have around 0.5 ppm, so it’s not a very good choice to eat them daily, weekly is fine. dolphin meat has 2000 ppm. it’s very poisonous. when you buy fish, look for full name or scientific name and then just google. for example "longtail tuna" or "thunnus tonggol" and add "mercury concentration" and you can see in results. each specie is unique and has its own concentration levels. pink salmon for example feeds on shrimps and won’t accumulate much mercury, but others will.
