My college campus has very limited dining options for vegetarians to begin with. Basically all they have for us to eat are salads, fruits, salad sandwhiches, peanutt butter and banana sandwhiches, french fries (I don’t eat fried foods), Amy’s mac and cheese, and Thai Pavillion noodles. How can I go vegan under these circumstances. I need some good tips/advice. Also, I have a meal plan on campus.
If you talk to the chef about your dietary needs, he or she may add more options for you and your fellow vegans. Most chefs are willing to cater to student’s particular diets. Or, if not, you may be able to work something out where your meal plan gives you the ability to purchase food that is better suited to you, instead of eating at the dining hall. The best thing to do is talk to the chef or head of dining services about it. Good luck.

Thats tough… You can’t cook your own meals I presume…can you petition for vegan meals to be made??? There are store bought things you can buy like cashews, almonds and peanuts. Vegetables are good to eat but you need protein too and that is the tricky part. Do they serve beans ever?? Beans are a very amazing food. They give you fiber and tons of energy and protein. Look for those. I highly doubt they have vegan pastas…or tempeh. If they have pasta with just sauce and noodles you could eat that. Good luck and use your creativity.

Vegan 2 years.
Hie thee to a health food/vegetarian/vegan market and get some vegan mayonnaise and some vegan salad dressing (get some seasonings, too, if you like – I like Spike on everything). Carry your condiments with you to the dining hall and "cook" at the table. (do you, like many dorm residents, have a little refrigerator in your room? if not, get one to put your goodies in)
Ask for the banana without the sandwich. Eat fruit. Eat salads. You might accidentally find that you like eating raw food. Otherwise, eat the Amy’s mac and cheese and the Thai noodles (toss your salad in there and mix it around to have something different.)
You are actually lucky. They did not have such choices when I was on a meal plan. The only choices were iceberg lettuce and apples or bananas. I had to supplement a good bit that semester. The refrigerator saved me.

I am a raw vegan nutritionist and chef. I have been a vegan for a very long time
Hmm, this will be tough with a meal plan. I myself went vegan for about five months, though I’m back to being a lacto-ovo now. I wasn’t at school when I did it, but I did have vegan friends at school who managed.
I’m sure your dining hall has soy milk. Veggies, beans, pasta/rice and other whole grains, fruit, salads, etc. are all fine. Maybe supplement your meal plan by buying things like nuts, soy yogurt if you want, soup, other vegan snacks to keep in your dorm room.
One big tip is to make sure you READ all of the ingredients posted, they should be up in your dining hall, and learn a lot about "hidden" animal products. A lot of foods contain animal products that you wouldn’t necessarily suspect, like some potato chips! And of course, Jell-O. Be careful about salad dressings too.
When I was vegan my diet was pretty much:
Breakfast: cereal and soy milk
Snacks: nuts, veggies, fruit
Lunch/Dinner: pasta or rice, salad, veggies, mushrooms, vegan entrees (like fake chicken patties), vegetarian sushi, soups, etc.
You should be able to find most of this stuff in your dining hall. Just be careful about checking the ingredients.
