Such foods are rich in fiber, antioxidants and phytonutrient compounds. In other words, these foods encourage weight loss and provide several health benefits. An orange, for example, has seven grams of fiber which is about 26% of the daily recommendation. It is also rich in vitamin C which heals cuts and wounds and supports teeth and gum health.</p>

<p>According to the American Dietetic Association (ADA), we need 20-36 grams of fiber daily. This amount is necessary in order to maintain balanced cholesterol levels, a healthy cardiovascular system and regular bowel movements. <p> In this country, many concerned groups have been trying to educate and create public awareness about the need to make healthy food choices or to switch to a diet that includes more fruits and vegetables. One of them is the Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) which has a campaign called “Fruits and Veggies More Matters” that teaches consumers about better nutrition. The USDA on the other hand, has reworked the Food Pyramid several times in order to accommodate more fiber rich foods.</p>
<p> If you want to make the switch to a high fiber diet but are too busy to do your own research, here are three simple tips you can follow:</p>
<p> Eat more salads. You can save on preparation time by using pre-chopped vegetables and bagged lettuce.</p>
<p> Eat stir fried vegetables. You can make delicious vegetable meals through this uniquely Chinese style of cooking. It only takes a few minutes to create a crispy fiber rich vegetable meal that is low in fat. For a more nutritious meal, combine it with brown rice instead of white.</p>
