What to eat in a raw food diet for variety?

I’m not looking to go totally raw food, but definitely want to have more. I know pretty much all the Western veggies and fruit, but what are some good foreign foods that can be eaten raw, and how to prepare them? Also what are good foods to sprout, and how do you do that?

Have you tried "green smoothies"? They are awesome! They are great to incorporate into a raw food diet!

I just started doing my own sprouts. I bought a variety package from wheatgrasskits.com. Get some big mason jars and tops to rinse. Those can be bought there, too, at least the lids with holes.

Your local health food store should have things like dehydrated fruits that you don’t find everyday like goji berries and such. I used to live in Florida and got all the papaya, coconuts, avocados, mangoes, and citrus from friends who had trees. I moved north and sure do miss those. Now I eat lots of apples, pears, cherries, and a variety of berries. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten tired of all the varieties of fruits that you can get at the store.

As far as the greens and veggies, I grow my own garden. Right now I have 7 different greens and different veggies growing. If you don’t have the space, you can grow them in container gardens.

I hope this helps a bit! ; )

Its not completely raw – but I like to put chickpeas in a pan and lightly brown them. I season them with a little salt and pepper. Very simple and tastes good warm or cold

I am just getting into raw foods myself, and honestly haven’t ventured into ethnic foods yet.

However, this site gives really good info on sprouting: http://foodfromaformerfatgirl.blogspot.com/2010/03/sprout-project.html

Two raw blogs I frequent (both have recipes for raw pad thai now that I think about it)

Sprouting is simple. Buy a sprouting jar, or make your own (a jam jar with holes in the lid) soak the seeds in water in the jar overnight, then simply rinse them twice a day for approx 4 days and they will sprout. Alfalfa and broccoli are two examples.

There are not many veggies you can’t eat raw, foreign or otherwise with a few exceptions – an obvious one being potatoes.

Difficult to say what exactly is "foreign" as practically everything grown everywhere is so widely available now. Bananas could be classed as that for example. Okra could be one I suppose – that tastes great in curries, but is probably a bit tough to eat raw, unless soaked.

Sashimi, this is raw fish which will provide an excellent source of protein, look at the japanese cooking culture for a raw food diet which is tasty and extremely nutritional.

Try eating fruits from Asian and Central or South America look them up I’m too lazy to write the whole list lol Like plantain, jackfruit, papaya, jocote(fruit from el salvador) nance(another fruit from el salvador) etc.
You don’t need to sprout anything just having a lot of fruits should be enough.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is great blog. A fantastic read. I will certainly be back.
