I am not sure on who to vote for in the uk elections this year. I want to vote for a party who care the most about animal welfare. I know this is the green party but I think that would be a waste of a vote because i really doubt they will win. It’s really out of Labour and Conservatives but I don’t have a clue on what they say about animal rights. Can anyone help x

Let me put it in an easier format to understand:
Party A) Has the experience and policies to get us out of the credit crunch, save our NHS and build public confidence back into government
Party B) does not care about the above but has a policy for providing free prosthetic legs for injured hedgehogs involved in hit and run’s?

you vote for who you like, no party really cares about animal rights as such. its a vote grabber for labour and the lib dems if they say they do. dont concern yourself with if the greens will win or not, one seat in parliament is better than none. animal welfare is waaay down my list of concerns in fact i dont even care about animal rights but i know the party i vote for have no chance of winning but i still vote for them. bums on seats not bums on the side looking in mouthing off is what we vote for. its your vote use it.

All three main parties have allowed Halal to be practised in this country. The act of chaining an animal up by its legs, slitting its throat and leaving it to die a slow agonising terrifying death….If you want to vote for the welfare of animals then vote for the British national party. They are the only party sworn to end halal in Britain. If you don’t want to do that, then vote UKIP or greens. Y’know your vote is supposed to act as a political barometer so that parliament knows what the mood of the British people is, in so far as its performance has gone thus far. if your vote doesn’t say how you really feel, then you are laughing in the face of democracy. Always vote true to your ideals. NO vote can be a wasted vote. That mentality is precisely why Britain never sees change, and is always stuck with the same lousy three tired old parties.

This is very subjective topic and really depends on your opinions.
Animals have a right to live and the main source of what supports the majority of animals in the UK is through our capitalist markets. We have just seen how ruthless the markets can be in the financial sector can be so controls on the markets is imperative to increasing animal husbandry and welfare. Britain has the highest animal welfare standards in the world but, what’s the point if we’re not eating British. Thanks to Labour our self sufficiency has massively decreased with two farmers going out of business each week, therefore we’re more reliant on imports that are subject to less welfare standards.
The party that is offering the best protection in this case is the Conservatives.
The three main issues as I see it;
[1] Creation of a supermarket ombusman – Labour has been extremely slow on this. Two years since the competition report recommendation but, from within the industry there have been calls for at least a decade.
[2] Badger tb – Like foot and mouth before it Labour’s disease control strategy and biosecurity has been appauling and has lead to the disease getting out of control.
[3] Fox hunting – It’s easy to think that Labour have the moral highground here but, if you look at the legislation and what has happened then you will see that Labour have made a right pigs ear out of this one.

There isn’t much difference between Labour and Conservatives, except perhaps that the Tories may scrap the ban on hunting with hounds. Like you say the Greens, and the others don’t stand a chance. The two main parties seem to have similar views on ritual slaughter, animals in sport, circuses, farming and vivisection. Why not try and find out what your prospective MP’s views are.

It is sad to see how many people think certain parties will never get in and therefore flip-flop between the two or three that have failed this country for decades. It is exactly these people who cause the situation! The person who made the point about gaining seats was absolutely right. Obviously animal cruelty is high on your list because it says something about the character of a party or its politicians – and I’m with you entirely on that one.
In a nutshell, I would say the Tories are the absolute worst (totally infiltrated by the Countryside Alliance and fox hunters this year), Lim Dems come close too as many see hunting for sport as a ‘liberty’ sadly. Labour is probably third down the line – would uphold the hunting act (which is major) but haven’t done anything about Halal slaughter for example. UKIP has said if anything, they would hold referendums at the county level on the hunting act -and that is the best solution I believe. It would mean that people could vote and not just MPs and perhaps put this issue to bed forever. Also, it is easier to boycott a county if one or two did go pro-hunt! The Green Party has key policies written around animal welfare and it is anti-hunt, so one of the best I would say.

To me Labour is the best of a bad bunch, at least they won’t repeal the hunting ban, which is what Cameron is champing at the bit to do as his top priority. I’ll not be voting for someone who puts killing (more) animals at the top of his to do list that’s for sure, it’s Labout for me.

This is my first year I am going to vote, I have always put it off as I havnt really understood the process. I am finally doing my research, I have decided I want to have a say in how my country is run. And animal welfare is one of my key priorities.
PAD is a fantastic project that helps to idenify each parties invdivdual aim regarding animal welfare.
I will not totally bias my vote just on animal welfare, but it will play a major part in where my vote goes.
