As I get more involved with animal rights and wildlife conservation, I’m finding more and more people that have given up meat. I do believe God meant for people to eat meat but I don’t believe in the factory farming practices. Am I a hypocrite for eating meat?
Of course it is! You are human after all. Free range and organic is worth looking into. The meat is better quality than factory produced as the animal has been rared like an animal should be. You can still eat meat whilst supporting animal rights. Don’t feel so guilty, you should be proud of what you do, keep up the good work.
Is it okay to be an animal-rights activist but not a vegetarian?

No, no, no, it is not a matter of being OK or not OK. What you suggest is an impossibility. The problem begins with an erroneous definition of “Animal Rights”. When we speak of rights, what we should really mean is right, one right, that not to be property. If a nonhuman animal has the right to not be property, how can you possibly justify depriving him of his liberty and life in order to consume his flesh and still maintain that you support his “rights”.
Might I brutalize and victimize women and claim that I support “Womens Rights”? Of course not!
Can I support “children’s rights” while actively practicing Pedophelia? I think not.
The entire concept of “humane slaughter” is oxymoronic at best. Exploitation can never be humane.
Animal rights is the belief that animals are not ours to use for food, etc. There is no such thing as humane slaughter. If you care about animals, please stop eating them.
Of course it is. You can care greatly and want to change the way animals that we consume, are raised, housed, treated and ultimately slaughtered….you are not a hypocrite.

That’s a good question. I heard the quote "you can’t be a meat-eating environmentalist." I think there’s a lot of truth to that. I’m an animal activist myself, but I’m also not a vegetarian. I’ve cut down a lot from meat, though, and I only eat meat when I know it’s organic and free range. I think in a way you can still be an animal right activist but not a vegetarian, but it’s a tough call.

So long as what your doing is in accordance with your own personal beliefs, and makes sence to you, your not a hypocrite.Especially as views vary so much on these things.Noone can dictate what another persons choices should be,and if you chose to be a vegatarian because of other peoples opinions, and it wasint what you honestly believed was right, then the decision wouldint mean anything.

I agree on wildlife conservation, and I think its dumb to fight for the rights of domestic animals (which some animal rights activists do).
Questionable farming practices is logical because that’s how Mad Cow Disease (cows), Bird Flu (chickens) and now Swine Flu (pigs) was created.
Humans were vegetarians before the ice age. Guess the domestic animals are finally having their revenge upon us for chopping them up and eating so many of them, lol XD

Nope, I don’t think so. As long as you believe that we should look after the animals we eat and slaughter them humanely, you’re not doing anything wrong.

The only answer possible, considering the way you’ve posed the question, is yes, if you’re an animal-rights advocate and you both eat animals and believe humans are meant to eat them, then you’re a hypocrite by definition. You can be an animal-welfare advocate and still eat animals, but if you’re a rights advocate it’s not possible to eat animal flesh without inviting the charge of hypocrisy. I think you’ve just misunderstood your terminology is all.
