Buddhism and Animal Rights

What’s the big difference between Buddhism and Christianity? Well for one, there are no gods in Buddhism. Buddhism is an atheistic religion. But more than that, Buddhism teaches about respecting all lifeforms on our planet. Christianity is only about humans, humans, humans. This kind of distinction in their teachings is reflected prominently in the cultures of christian dominated countries. Think about how the average American feels about animals rights. Notice how all the redneck hunters out there have absolutely no respect for animal rights, but are deeply religious. That’s no coincidence.

Wonderful! Love your logic and unique presentation. I am vegan and a “non-theist” but have an interest in spiritualism. Extending kindness to all seems the correct course to enlightenment; and it’s so sad that Western Religions are contrary to the messages of peace. You can’t have peace while inflicting violence towards others… even non-humans. Thanks for this very informative video :)
    Shine on!

i’m also Sinhalese Buddhist and i don’t know how you do it but in your videos, you always know the right thing to say. I really don’t know how you do it, sounding neutral as if you are the Buddha :o . and yeah i’m not that big into the religion but my parents are. it’s more like a philosophy, they don’t believe in heaven or . Just reincarnation, but i don’t believe in that. i just believe in being nice to others, thinking as if you were them.

It may be a small matter, but as a Buddhist, I was say that Buddhism is more an agnostic religion than an atheist religion, because, though it doesn’t AFFIRM the existence of a supernatural deity, it doesn’t technically DENY one either. Buddhism sees the issue as irrelevant. A friend of mine, and a fellow Buddhist once said, “Whether a god exists or not, our suffering exists, and Buddhism is meant to confront that.” I liked that. But again, it’s a small issue.

Thanks for this my friend. As religions go, Buddhism is one of the best, and Christians act like it’s some sort of terrifying evil cult or something (ones I’ve talked to anyways) – lol. Here’s one I hope you’ll do a talk on: Jainism. The Jains are usually highly educated, very successful in India and elsewhere. Dignified and classy people, in my experience with some in the US. I like your take on things, so please do a vid on them, will you?

No, buddha is a man who taught himself something very important and thereby acheiving a special status. It is like earning a PHD without without the help of any teachers.

I’m so happy to see another person like you who speaks for what is right.

You are so right in everything you say and one does not have to be religious to have respect for other forms of life. The root of the problem of animal abuse is the view one has of animals as just ‘products’ with no feelings while science has proved their nerve system is sharper than ours so they experience abuse as intense as we do and maybe even worse

The bible says ‘SUBDUE’ the earth and animals and ‘HARVEST’ them.
These words I’ve seen many times from christians who are against animalrights.
The Native Americans/Aboriginals/(Tibetan)buddhists learn to live WITH the earth in RESPECT to ALL LIVING beings in contrary of the others who are more ABOVE and AGAINST nature, forming it to their will. And we all know we can’t go on emptying and polluting the planet and abusing animals treating them worse than our material products.

Buddhism is an atheistic religion, meaning there is no god. Mahayana Buddhism does worship Buddha as god, but that’s an offshoot of the mainstream Buddhism. Sidartha himself (The Buddha) rejected being deified. People who truly understand Buddhism do not worship Buddha, they honor and respect his teachings. This is often mistaken for worship, but it’s not.

  26. Very interesting website, but you must improve your template graphics.

  27. When I came over to this post I can only see part of it, is this my web internet browser or the internet website? Should I reboot?

  28. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
